Preparation and Optimization of Starch/Poly Vinyl Alcohol/ZnO Nanocomposite Films Applicable for Food Packaging

Pollution and destruction of the environment due to accumulation non-degradable plastics are some most important concerns in world. A significant amount this waste is related polymers used food packaging. Therefore, experts industry have been looking for suitable biodegradable alternatives synthetic polymers. Preparing biocompatible films based on starch a good choice. In study, various factors affecting starch/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/containing ZnO nanoparticles such as starch, PVA, glycerol, were evaluated by response surface methodology (RSM). Film formation solvent casting method, mechanical properties, swelling, solubility, water vapor permeability (WVP) selected responses RSM. The results showed that hydrogen bonding interactions between polyvinyl improved film formation. effect glycerol PVA content strength was contrary each other. As increased, tensile first decreased then increased. value WVP all Runs from 0 6.77 × 10− 8 g m− 1 s− Pa− 1. Finally, with high formation, maximum strength, elongation at break, minimum permeability, swelling optimized.
